Summary

This grant opportunity provides funding for nonprofit organizations, municipalities, and public entities that serve communities throughout Vermont. It is designed to strengthen community wellbeing through initiatives in education, arts and culture, social services, community development, environmental stewardship, and place-based projects that enhance local vitality. Funding is available to organizations located within Vermont or whose work directly benefits residents of the state.

Smaller-scale awards, typically ranging from $500 to $5,000, are available to support grassroots, community-driven projects that foster collaboration, civic engagement, inclusion, and resilience. These grants are often used to encourage local partnerships, strengthen social connections, and improve the overall quality of life in underserved regions of the state, including rural or economically challenged areas. Larger funding opportunities, usually between $15,000 and $25,000 per year, are provided for programs that demonstrate measurable impact, strong community participation, and long-term sustainability. These awards may extend for one or two years, depending on the scope and readiness of the project.

In addition, capacity-building funds are available for smaller nonprofit organizations with annual operating budgets under $1 million. These grants, generally up to $5,000, help organizations invest in consulting, strategic planning, technology, and leadership development to strengthen their infrastructure and improve service delivery.

Funds may be used for project implementation, staff development, community engagement activities, or equipment and technology directly related to the proposed initiative. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate community partnerships and diversified funding sources. Grants are not typically awarded for deferred maintenance, capital campaigns, or projects that have already been completed.

This opportunity is open to eligible Vermont-based organizations committed to advancing inclusion, fostering civic participation, and building stronger, more connected communities. By supporting local leadership and innovation, this funding helps ensure that communities across Vermont continue to thrive and adapt to changing needs.
