According to Vermont's Department of Health, roughly 1 in every 1,000 newborns are diagnosed with hearing loss, a crucial period where early detection is necessary for proper cognitive and social development. Given Vermont's rural nature and the spread of its population, ensuring access to these vital services across the state can be particularly challenging, especially in more isolated communities.
In Vermont, families with young children often encounter barriers due to a lack of local resources. Many of the state's 251,000 residents live in rural areas where specialized healthcare services are limited.
